Jorge E. Ancona
After 10 years of service at UCLA, Jorge E. Ancona was named assistant vice chancellor of alumni relations at the University of California, Irvine and executive director of the UCI Alumni Association in December 2002.
As assistant vice chancellor, Jorge oversees programs and services for UC Irvine’s more than 120,000 alumni, a community that grows by more than 6,500 Anteaters each year. As UCIAA’s executive director, Jorge is responsible for managing a $1.25 million dollar budget, $5 million in assets, working with a 30-person Board of Directors and managing a staff of eight.
Since he’s been at the helm, the UCI Alumni Association has enjoyed numerous successes, including:
- establishing the UCI Student Alumni Association
- growing Homecoming attendance from 150 participants to more than 3,000
- increasing membership in the alumni association by 57% (5,277 to 8,280)
- bolstering the number of alumni e-mail addresses on file from 3,500 to 25,000
- increasing the operating budget of the alumni association from $850,000 to $1.25 million
- growing the association’s scholarship endowments from $1.46 to $2.57 million
- increasing the association’s assets from $3.43 to $5 million
Jorge is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the Council of Alumni Association Executives and the Alumni Associations of the University of California. He served as the alumni relations co-chair for the 2006 CASE District VII conference and as co-chair for the 2007 CAAE Winter Institute.
His professional acknowledgements include numerous awards at UCLA, including being named Advisor of the Year in 2001 by the Association of Student Advancement Programs. Under his leadership, UCIAA has earned four CASE District awards for outstanding alumni events and communications as well as national honors from CASE for its Alumni Appreciation program in 2004.
Jorge graduated from UCLA in 1993 with degrees in economics and Latin American studies.
